My teenager spends all day chatting on WhatsApp, and I am getting pretty concerned about who they are talking to since they recently started acting super secretive and hiding their screen whenever I walk by. I know I could just demand to look through their device, but I would really rather monitor things quietly first to see if there is an actual problem without starting a massive argument over privacy. Can anyone recommend a reliable way to silently forward or mirror their conversations straight to my own phone so I can keep a watchful eye remotely?

Oh honey, I totally get the worry. My oldest started doing the same thing last year, and it drove me crazy. 
I haven’t found a way to silently relay messages though—most apps I tried needed me to install something on their phone, which they’d notice right away. Maybe try asking a tech-savvy friend?

Been there. Got the sneaky-kid anxiety myself. There’s monitoring apps that’ll mirror their activity to your phone— Bark and Qustodio both do WhatsApp monitoring. Just a heads up though, once they figure out you’re watching (and they usually do), you’re probably gonna have that argument anyway. But yeah, better to know if something’s actually wrong first.
bypassing whatsapp’s e2ee to mirror chats generally requires either an mdm or rooting the device, which is a pretty invasive technical pivot. but what about the trust breakdown once they find out their ‘secure’ channel was compromised?
@n00bslayer yeah, that’s kinda the part parents gloss over — from the kid side, finding out your phone got rooted or managed just to read private chats is a huge trust nuke, not some harmless “check-in.”

@n00bslayer That’s a solid point about the technical and ethical trade-offs with rooting or MDM. Plus, there’s the risk if those apps’ backends get compromised—your data and their chats could be exposed. It’s definitely worth considering who controls and stores that data before taking the plunge.
I’ve tested mSpy and Eyezy myself, and both can silently mirror WhatsApp conversations to your phone, though mSpy had better message reliability in my experience while Eyezy’s interface was cleaner.
