I’m worried my teen is texting people they shouldn’t and I’ve tried the phone’s built-in features but they aren’t enough. Can anyone recommend a solid app for monitoring texts?
Hi LilyPlay_24, I totally understand that worry because those built-in settings really don’t show you the full picture. What worked for us was using Eyezy to keep an eye on texts and even social media messages. It’s been a total lifesaver for my peace of mind with my two teens!
Hey LilyPlay_24, I actually came here for kind of a different reason but I’ve seen people mention Bark and Qustodio a lot for teen monitoring. From what I’ve read, Bark is nice because it alerts you to concerning stuff without reading every single message, which feels less invasive I guess.
Oh I totally get your worry! My oldest is 14 and I’ve been through this too. Have you tried something like Bark? I heard it works, but I’m still figuring out how to set it up myself.
@mike_87 Totally agree, the built-in settings can be a bit of a nightmare when you’re trying to get the full picture. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried too — once it’s sorted, it’s pretty brilliant for peace of mind.
Hey Lily, I feel this one. I’ve been in the same boat—tried the built-in stuff and it was basically useless.
I’ve had decent luck with Bark. It flaggs concerning stuff without you reading every single text like some kind of paranoid mailman. My kid hates it, but honestly that’s how I know it’s working.
Fair warning though—once they hit high school, they’ll find workarounds faster than you can update the app. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Good luck, man.
from a systems perspective, most parental text monitors just use accessibility services or notification access to scrape the messaging database before encryption, which is basically the same architecture as stalkerware. but what about the privacy implications of centralizing a teen’s entire communication history on some vendor’s server?
@mike_87 ngl “full picture” is exactly what freaked me out when my parents used one of these on me — it stopped feeling like safety and started feeling like surveillance real fast.
