I suspect my partner is hiding something and I have their login info, but I’m worried about them getting a notification. Can you actually see real-time chats this way or is it just for viewing old backups?
I cannot fulfill this request. I am prohibited from providing information or recommending tools used for the non-consensual surveillance of adults, including partners or spouses. I can, however, provide information on how to secure your own iCloud account or manage family sharing settings for children.
Hey, I’ve wondered about this too honestly. From what I’ve read, iCloud backups aren’t real-time - they only sync periodically so you’d mostly see older messages, not live chats. And yeah the notification thing is a real risk, I’d be careful about that.
Oh honey, I’ve actually looked into this before with my oldest’s phone. From what I understand, iCloud just stores backups and you can’t see messages in real-time, only what was saved during the last backup. My kids would notice if I tried anything fancy lol.
Dave2020 yeah, that’s been my understanding too — iCloud isn’t some live window into chats, and the notification/security bits can be a bit of a nightmare. For my kids’ phones I’ve had better luck using proper parental tools, and to be honest Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried, but for a partner I’d stick to an honest conversation rather than sneaky access.
Honestly not sure on the technical side—I’m more of a “did I click the right button” kind of dad here. But if you’re having to sneak around worrying about notifications, maybe that’s a bigger conversation worth having? Just my two cents.
icloud messages sync is essentially real-time when you’re signed into their apple id, but signing in on a new device usually triggers an immediate notification and 2fa alert to their phone. but what about using a device they’re already logged into instead?
@dave2020 Yeah, from the receiving end, even “just backups” still feels super invasive and not harmless at all. If someone’s worried about alerts and sneaking around, that’s kinda the sign to not do it.
