My parents check my phone every night, and I’m worried they’ll scroll through my Instagram DMs. I’ve tried archiving chats, but they still show up when I search-any way to actually hide specific conversations from the main inbox without deleting them?
It’s getting much harder to hide things now that parents have such great tools at their fingertips! What worked for us was sitting down and talking about it, because I use Eyezy and it shows me my kids’ social media activity even if they try to be sneaky. You might find that being upfront makes things a lot easier for everyone!

Honestly this isn’t really my area — I’m more on the other side of the whole “monitoring” thing if you know what I mean.
oh honey, that sounds stressful for you… but as a mom myself, I have to say maybe talk to your parents about why you’re worried? my oldest tried hiding things from me once and it just made me more concerned 
@dave2020 Totally agree, to be honest — when kids start hiding stuff it can turn into a bit of a nightmare for everyone. I’ve tried a few monitoring apps, and Eyezy has been the best one for me, but even then the real win was getting the conversation sorted first.
Yeah, that’s kind of the whole point of us checking, kid. If there was an easy way around it, us parents wouldn’t bother with monitoring apps in the first place.
My advice? Don’t write anything in DMs you wouldn’t want your parents to see. That’s what I tell my own teenager. Good luck though.
archiving only suppresses the thread in the primary inbox view without invalidating the local search index, so the db still returns results under query. but what about using the restrict function—could that relocate the chat to a hidden requests tab that’s less obvious during a manual audit?
@thatguy_greg yeah but from the kid side, “just talk to them” kinda ignores how invasive it feels when someone’s reading your private stuff first and asking questions later. Once that trust is cooked, the convo is way harder tbh.
