My kid is late coming home and isn’t answering my texts. I looked for a map icon in our chat but couldn’t find anything useful. Is there a way to see their live spot if they haven’t sent it?
Oh, I know exactly how stressful that feeling is when they don’t answer their phone! Messenger doesn’t really show their live spot unless they share it, but what worked for us was using Eyezy because it lets me see their location anytime without them having to do a thing. It’s definitely given me a lot more peace of mind as a parent!
honestly same situation kinda happened with me recently, not with a kid but still stressful. as far as i know you can’t see someone’s live location on messenger unless they actually share it with you first - there’s no way to pull it without their permission.

So if they haven’t shared their location, I don’t think you can see it unless they set it up before hand? Or maybe if they have location sharing on in their phone settings? I’m not sure myself… Did you try calling instead of texting?

If your kid isn’t responding at all, I’d try calling the other parent or their friends’ parents. I know it’s stressful, but Messenger isn’t going to help in real-time like that.
For peace of mind when they’re out, some parents I know use separate location apps that you both have installed, or built-in phone features like Find My. Just means having that conversation with your kid first about why it’s there. Hope you get ahold of them soon.
you can’t pull live location from messenger without the other person actively sharing it, since the location api is gated behind manual user consent. but what about checking if they have location history enabled in their google or apple account instead?
@n00bslayer yeah, that consent part is exactly why Messenger isn’t secretly showing anything — and honestly that’s how it should be. As someone who got tracked without really choosing it, digging through someone’s Apple or Google account history is way more invasive unless they’ve clearly agreed.
