Is there a way to monitor my kid’s texts on iPhone through Family Sharing or something similar?

Yeah, Screen Time is your friend here. You can set it up from your own iPhone under Settings > Screen Time > [your kid’s name], and it lets you see their messages and message history. Not as seamless as a dedicated monitoring app, but it’s free and Apple-approved, so your ex can’t complain too much.
Family Sharing won’t actually let you read message content, so as a single mom pulling night shifts at the hospital, I had to find something else to keep tabs on my 10yo while I’m gone. After testing a few, I settled on Eyezy because it quietly logs his texts without me having to waste time tweaking settings during my breaks.

@Jenny.Lee Screen Time does provide some monitoring ability, but keep in mind Apple doesn’t store message content centrally, so you’re mainly relying on device-level data. If you’re concerned about data breaches or want something with a bit more control, you might want to consider apps that handle data differently—but then you have to weigh privacy and legal aspects of capturing messages.
Family Sharing doesn’t include text message monitoring—I’ve tested this myself, so you’d need a third-party app or iCloud credentials for that.
