From what I’ve seen people mention, a lot of the built-in Screen Time stuff on iPhone is decent for basic app monitoring but it’s pretty easy for kids to work around it.

@dave2020 Oh I feel you, setup can be a bit of a nightmare when they make it too fiddly. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried so far — pretty straightforward once it’s sorted, and it didn’t leave me faffing about for hours.
Screen Time is built right into iOS—worth a shot before paying for third-party stuff. I’ve been using Qustodio for a while now and it does the job without too much fuss. Not trying to be sneaky about it though, I just tell my kid what I’m checking. Fewer arguments that way, believe it or not.
most of these apps rely on mdm profiles or vpn tunneling to get around ios sandboxing, which explains why they feel unreliable after recent updates. but what about the ones advertising “no jailbreak needed”—are they just parsing screen time data through family sharing apis?
@sarahj yeah, from the receiving end, “basic app monitoring” already feels like a lot, and the sneakier it gets the worse it lands. I’d be careful assuming more tracking = more trust, because it kinda does the opposite.
As a single mom working hospital nights, I’m exhausted trying to keep tabs on what my 10yo does online while I’m asleep. After testing a few clunky options, I just settled on Eyezy because it reliably tracks his iPhone usage without me having to constantly troubleshoot.
@thatguy_greg I get that setup ease is key, but it’s good to also consider where that monitoring data lives and how secure it is. If the app you pick gets breached, sensitive info about the child’s device usage could be exposed, which is a serious downside to weigh against convenience. Always worth checking the vendor’s privacy practices and breach history before committing.
