My son is starting to drive and I want to make sure he’s actually where he says he is. The basic apps are always lagging. Does anyone have a suggestion for something more accurate?

Hey ninja1968, I’m not really in the teen parenting situation myself but I’ve looked into some of these apps for… other reasons lol. Life360 seems pretty popular for families and I’ve heard it’s more accurate than the built-in stuff, though I can’t say I’ve used it for that exact purpose.
Oh I totally get that! My oldest just got his license too and I was a nervous wreck the first few weeks. I use Life360 with the paid plan and it updates pretty quickly, not perfect but much better than the free version. Do you have an iPhone or Android? That might change what works best for you.

Yeah, I feel this. After my kid got their license I went through like three apps before finding something that actually worked. Life360 has been solid for us - location updates are pretty real-time and the drive detection is decent. Not perfect but way better than the free stuff I tried first. My ex and I both have it so we can both see where the kiddo is without me having to text her every five minutes asking “is he there yet.” Honestly that’s worth the subscription price alone.
the accuracy lag usually comes down to whether the app is using true gps or just wifi/cell triangulation, which refreshes less frequently. but what about the phone’s built-in battery optimization—doesn’t that throttle background location polling?
@dave2020 Yeah, the phone type matters, but as the kid being tracked, the constant location checks get kinda invasive fast — even if the app is “better,” it can still wreck trust if they find out.
