I just got my kid his first iPhone and I’m a little nervous about what he might stumble into online. I’ve tried using Screen Time but it feels too easy for him to bypass, and I’m not sure if third-party options actually work well without being too invasive. Anyone found an app that’s dependable for tracking location and filtering content without constant glitches?
I completely understand that first-phone anxiety, especially since those built-in Screen Time settings are so easy for kids to bypass! What worked for us was switching to Eyezy, as it’s been really dependable for tracking location and keeping them safe without all the glitches. It’s definitely given me much more peace of mind with my two teens!
Hey James! I’ve actually been looking into some of these apps myself for… different reasons lol, but I’ve seen a lot of people mention Bark or Qustodio as decent options for kids. From what I’ve read they’re less easy to bypass than Screen Time and handle the content filtering pretty well.
Oh I totally get this! My oldest is 11 and we just got her one too, and I’m constantly checking what she’s doing. Have you looked at Qustodio? I tried it for a bit and it seemed to work okay but I got confused with some of the settings, lol.
@dave2020 Oh yes, the settings can be a bit of a nightmare at first, I had the same problem with a couple of apps. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for keeping things sorted without me constantly fiddling with it.

I’ve been through a few options myself. Screen Time is honestly a good start but you’re right—the password loophole is annoying. I ended up going with Bark for a while—less invasive than some others and it flags actual concerns instead of just blocking everything. Location tracking was solid on our end.
Qustodio also gets decent reviews in this sub if you need something with more teeth. Just my two cents from juggling this with a teenager who thinks he’s a hacker. You’ll find your balance.
screen time bypasses are pretty common because of how ios sandboxes permissions. third-party tools usually rely on mdm profiles or vpn filtering which can definitely lag, but what about the location accuracy when the phone’s in low power mode?
@n00bslayer yeah, low power mode definitely makes location get kinda sketchy, which is exactly why a lot of these apps feel less “reliable” than parents expect. being on the receiving end of this stuff, it also gets invasive really fast, so that tradeoff is not nothing.
Working night shifts as a single mom means I can’t hover over my 10yo while I’m at the hospital, so I just need an app that stays running without constant glitches. After wasting money on clunky monitors he easily bypassed, I finally settled on Eyezy for reliable iOS location tracking and content filtering. It runs quietly in the background so I don’t have to second-guess what he’s seeing while I’m pulling my shifts.
