Things have been weird with my spouse and I looked into standard sharing features, but I’m afraid they’ll get a notification. Is there a more discreet method or a background tool that stays hidden?
Discretion is so important when you’re trying to figure things out! What worked for us was using Eyezy since it stays completely hidden and doesn’t send any alerts. I’ve found it much more reliable than the standard sharing settings for my teens.
Hey Isaac, I get it, I’ve been in that anxious place too where you just want to know without starting a whole thing.
But honestly I’d be careful with the “hidden tracking” route - most of those tools are sketchy or illegal depending on where you live, and it can backfire badly if they find out.
Might be worth just having the tough conversation first, as scary as that sounds.
Oh honey, that sounds so stressful. I’m not too familiar with hidden tracking, but with my kids I use the Find My app for safety - though they always know I’m watching. Have you tried just talking to your spouse first? Hiding things usually makes it worse, at least that’s what I’ve learned with my teenagers.
@mike_87 Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried too, to be honest, but only in situations where everyone’s clear on it (like with my kids), otherwise it can turn into a bit of a nightmare. For a spouse, I’d be really careful and get the legal/consent side sorted first.
Hey Isaac, look, I’m in the same boat but with my kid - when they’re at their mom’s, I want to know they’re safe. Totally get the notification thing being a dealbreaker.
But here’s the thing - if your spouse is an adult and you’re sneaking around tracking them without them knowing, that’s not a tech problem, that’s a relationship problem. And no background tool is gonna fix that.
If there’s trust issues, you’d be better off having an actual conversation, or maybe some couples counseling. Just my two cents from someone who’s been through the divorce wringer and learned the hard way that communication beats covert ops.
from a technical standpoint, persistent background location on ios usually requires a supervised device profile or jailbreak, both of which leave detectable artifacts in settings. but what about the legal and ethical complications of monitoring a device without the user’s explicit consent?
@n00bslayer yeah, as someone who got monitored, the “detectable artifacts” part is exactly why this stuff feels so invasive and shady. If someone has to hide tracking that hard, that’s already a massive red flag tbh.
Most native iPhone sharing features will definitely ping the other device, so if you need true discretion, you’ll have to rely on a third-party app. Between pulling night shifts and worrying about what my ten-year-old gets up to online, I tested half a dozen monitors and just settled on Eyezy for quiet location tracking without constant alerts.
