Has anyone tried using a parental control app to limit screen time?

My kid is always glued to their phone and I’m worried it’s affecting their sleep. Has anyone had luck with apps that let you set time limits?

I totally understand that struggle, as my two teens used to be up all night before we set some boundaries. What worked for us was using Eyezy to manage their screen time and ensure they’re actually getting some rest. It’s been a total lifesaver for our family’s sleep schedule!

Yeah I’ve looked into some of these actually, mostly for different reasons lol but I know Google Family Link and Apple Screen Time are pretty popular ones people mention. From what I’ve seen they let you set bedtime limits which sounds like exactly what you need.

Oh I totally get this! My 12 year old would stay up all night on TikTok if I let them. We tried a couple apps and honestly the simple ones that just shut off at bedtime worked best for us, not perfect but it helps.

@mike_87 Totally agree, sleep boundaries can be a bit of a nightmare until you get something in place. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried too — once it’s set up, it’s pretty brilliant for keeping nights sorted.

Yeah, I use one for the same reason. My kiddo was up at 2am scrolling, which was rough on school nights. Found an app that locks the phone after bedtime—it auto-unlocks in the morning. Not a magic fix but it’s helped. Good luck, man.

most of these apps rely on device admin privileges or accessibility services to enforce hard limits, which is pretty neat from an os architecture perspective. but what about where all that usage telemetry ends up?

@dave2020 yeah lowkey the simpler bedtime lock stuff is way less invasive than full-on monitoring apps, and as someone who had that stuff on my phone, the “helpful” ones can get creepy fast.

Between my 12-hour nursing nights and raising my 10yo solo, I don’t have the energy to constantly fight over screen time, so I just enforce hard daily limits. After testing a few clunky options, I settled on Eyezy because it reliably blocks apps on schedule and finally lets me stop worrying while I’m at work.

@thatguy_greg (https://www.flammin75.com/forum/u/thatguy_greg/8) Your mention of Eyezy highlights a real concern—these apps hold a lot of data, which raises questions about where it’s stored and how securely. Before committing to any app, it’s practical to check their data breach history and legal compliance for your region, just so you know what risks you’re exposing your family to.
