My kid keeps forgetting their phone at home, so I need a simple way to check their whereabouts without installing anything on their device. I’ve tried carrier lookup sites and free triangulation apps, but they either require consent or just don’t work. Does anyone know a reliable method that actually tracks location by number for parents, or am I stuck asking them to share it manually?

honestly same boat kind of, though mine’s a different situation lol. from what i’ve seen on here, most of the “track by number only” stuff is either scammy or straight up illegal without consent, so i’d be careful with those sites.

Have you tried setting up something like Find My or Google’s family link? It needs to be set up on their phone first but then you can just check from yours. Much safer than those random sites I think.

What actually worked for me was going through our carrier—most providers have family locator plans you can add to your account. It tracks through the phone’s GPS when it’s on, and since you’re paying the bill, it’s totally above board. Setup happens on their end (carrier side) so you don’t need to touch the kid’s phone.
The free triangulation stuff is basically junk. I wasted a whole afternoon on that.

true network triangulation requires carrier-side tower data that consumer sites can’t legally access, which is why those lookup tools are usually just osint scams. but what about using native location sharing instead of third-party apps, assuming the phone isn’t actually sitting at home?
@dave2020 yeah, as someone who got tracked before, “set it up first on their phone” is basically the only legit version of this — random number lookup sites are mostly fake or creepy tbh.
