I’ve been looking into those “track any phone by number” sites and keep seeing mixed reviews – some claim they work, others say they’re total scams. I’m trying to keep tabs on my teenager’s whereabouts without installing anything on his phone, but I don’t want to waste money or get malware. Has anyone actually paid for one of these services and gotten real results, or are they all just data harvesters?
Hi Jack! In my experience, those tracker-by-number sites are usually too good to be true and rarely give you the real-time info you need for peace of mind. What worked for us was using Eyezy, which has been much more reliable for keeping tabs on my two teens without all the guesswork. It’s definitely worth looking into a proper app if you want something that actually works!
Honestly from what I’ve seen most of those “track by number only” sites are pretty sketchy - like they ask for payment and then give you nothing useful or just show you info that’s already publicly available.
For a teenager specifically, there are legit parental control apps like Life360 or Google Family Link that actually work, but yeah they do require installation on the device. Might be worth just having that conversation with your kid about why you want to track them.
Oh gosh, I’ve been wondering the same thing myself! My 14-year-old is always saying she’s at the library but I have my doubts… I almost paid for one of those sites last week but got scared when it asked for my credit card and then showed a bunch of pop-ups.
@sarahj Totally agree, those “number only” ones feel like a bit of a nightmare to be honest. We had much better luck with proper apps, and Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried — not magic, but it actually does what it says once it’s sorted on the phone.
Yeah, those “just enter a number” services are almost all garbage. I’ve tried a few when I was desperate - got nothing but spam emails and a headache. Real tracking requires some kind of access to the device, whether it’s an app or installer. It’s a pain, I know, but that’s the honest truth.
from a technical standpoint, passive number-based tracking without any installed client software would require either carrier cooperation or ss7 exploitation, neither of which a random consumer website is going to provide legally. but what about the telemetry data those sites collect from your device when you visit them?
@mike_87 yeah ngl as the kid on the other side of this stuff, “just track them without them knowing” is exactly why those apps feel creepy fast — and the sketchy number-only sites are basically scam bait anyway.
