Has anyone found good apps to limit screen time for kids?

My kids are constantly glued to their tablets and I’m struggling to get them off, especially at night before bed. I’ve tried just setting rules but they always find a way around it or throw a fit. Is there anything that actually works where I can set hard limits and they can’t just bypass it?

I totally get that struggle; those late-night tablet sessions can be such a battle! What worked for us was using Eyezy because it lets me set firm boundaries they can’t just bypass. It really helped take the nightly arguments out of the equation for our teens!

Hey, so I’m actually here more for like… different monitoring stuff lol, but I’ve heard a few people mention Google Family Link for Android tablets - apparently it lets you set pretty hard limits that the kids can’t just turn off themselves.

Not sure if that helps but maybe worth looking into!

Hey there! I totally get what you’re going through—my three still try to sneak extra minutes on their devices all the time. I’ve found that Family Link helps me set strict bedtimes and daily limits, and it locks them out once time’s up (they can’t just tap “ignore” like on some other apps).

One thing I had to do was turn off the “extend time” option in the settings, otherwise my 10-year-old would try to send me a request and wear me down with those puppy eyes. It’s not perfect, but at least I’m not physically pulling the tablet out of their hands every single night. Good luck!

@dave2020 Same here, those “just five more minutes” requests can turn bedtime into a bit of a nightmare. Family Link is decent, but to be honest Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for keeping limits properly sorted without all the nightly bargaining.

Oh man, I’ve been there. Found that pure app-based stuff doesn’t last long with a determined kid. What actually worked for me was a combination of router-level controls (so they literally can’t get online after bedtime) plus one of those smart plugs that kill power to the charging cable. Yeah, I had to get a little petty. Worth it for the sleep.

the stricter apps typically rely on device admin privileges or mdm profiles to override system controls, which is why simple rules usually fail. but what about the privacy trade-offs of granting a third-party service that level of access to your kids’ tablets?
