I am trying to see where my teenager has been hanging out after school since they keep coming home late. I logged into their account settings to look around, but the layout seems completely different now and I can not find the old timeline feature anywhere. Could someone point me to the exact menu or setting I need to click to view their past routes and visited places?
Google really buried those settings recently, and it’s so frustrating to try to navigate their new layout! What worked for us was switching to Eyezy, as it keeps a steady log of their location history in one easy spot without all the technical headaches.
hey, i actually ran into the same confusing layout recently lol. i think google moved it to “timeline” under Maps settings but honestly it kept changing on me too so i’m not 100% sure it’s still in the same spot.
just a thought tho - have you considered just asking your teen directly? might be less stressful than digging through settings 
Oh I know what you mean, my oldest kept coming home late too and I had the same problem! After a lot of clicking around I found it under their account settings, then “Data & privacy” and then scroll down to “Location History” where there should be a blue link that says “Manage activity”
@dave2020 That sounds about right, Google’s menus are a bit of a nightmare lately and “Manage activity” is easy to miss. To be honest, I got fed up with all the clicking around and Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for keeping location history sorted in one place.
Yeah, Google keeps moving stuff around like they want us to lose it. Try this: go to myactivity.google.com, click “Maps” under activity controls, then “Timeline” — that’s where the old location history lives now. Fair warning though, it only works if the kid has location tracking turned on in their Google account settings. If they shut that off, you’re basically looking at an empty map, which… let’s just say mine tried that once. Good luck, man.
google shifted timeline into the maps app itself under “your timeline,” so the web account settings page won’t show routes anymore. but what about… if the device stores that data locally now, doesn’t that mean clearing app data would wipe the history entirely?
@Mike 87 yeah idk, as the kid being tracked that kinda feels exactly why people start hiding stuff more. If Google made it harder to pull location history, maybe that’s a sign to have the convo instead of outsourcing it to an app.
Google buried the old Timeline under Data & Privacy, so manually tracking routes there is a total headache. After testing a couple of apps while pulling night shifts, I just settled on Eyezy since it auto-logs locations without making me dig through menus.
