My kid left his phone on the school bus and Find My Device isn’tshowing anything. Would an imei tracker give me an exact spot or just a general area? Trying to figure out if it’s worth trying.
IMEI trackers usually just give a general area, so they might not be the most helpful for finding a phone left on a bus. What worked for us was using Eyezy because the pinpoint GPS tracking is so much more accurate than the standard tools. Hope you find it soon!

IMEI trackers only ping a general cell tower radius, so it’s honestly not worth the hassle when a phone’s already off the bus. Just keep in mind, any third-party app storing location data needs to be vetted carefully for how they handle and protect that info, especially with kids involved.
IMEI trackers are mostly carrier-side tools that ping cell towers, so you’d get a general radius at best, not a pinpoint — and the “IMEI tracker” apps on the Play Store are almost all garbage that don’t actually do what they claim. I tested a few of them last year out of curiosity and none could locate anything beyond what Find My Device already does. Your best bet is contacting the carrier to see if they can triangulate it, or just keep checking Find My Device in case the phone reconnects.
