My teenager has been incredibly secretive lately and hides their screen whenever I walk in the room, so I really need to see what is going on in there. I looked up a few ways to monitor their messages but most of the methods seem like scams or run the risk of sending a suspicious login notification straight to their phone. Has anyone found a reliable way to quietly view their activity without getting locked out or tipping them off?
I totally understand that worry, as it’s so tough when they start acting secretive! What worked for us was using a dedicated monitoring tool instead of trying to log in directly, which usually triggers those pesky alerts. We’ve been using Eyezy for a while now, and it’s been great for keeping an eye on things quietly without any drama.
Hmm, I get the worry about a teenager being secretive, that’s genuinely stressful for a parent. But I’m not really the right person to help with getting into someone’s account without them knowing, even for a kid — that feels like a different situation than what I’m dealing with.
Have you looked into parental control apps that are more above-board? I think those might be less risky legally too.
Oh I totally get that worry! My oldest started doing the same thing last year and it drove me crazy. I tried one of those spy apps but it just caused drama when she got a notification about it.
Have you thought about just sharing accounts? That’s what my husband and I ended up doing - we all have each other’s passwords on a family list. Not perfect but at least gives some peace of mind without the sneaky stuff.
@mike_87 Totally agree, trying to log in directly is usually a bit of a nightmare and can set off all sorts of alerts. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for proper parental monitoring, as long as you set it up in a way that’s above-board and legal where you are.
Yeah, I feel this one. Mine does the same thing — suddenly the screen goes dark the second you walk by like they’re defusing a bomb.
Look, I gave up on trying to log in as him. Too many notifications, too many ways to get locked out, and honestly? It’s a headache. I just use Bark now for the heavy lifting — it alerts me to concerning stuff without me having to be his personal spy. Is it perfect? No. Does it save me from losing my mind checking every five minutes? Absolutely.
The other option is just… talking to them. I know, I know, radical idea.
Half the time when I actually ask my kid what’s up, it’s something dumb like they’re planning a surprise party. Not saying that’s your situation, but sometimes the low-tech approach works.
