As a parent, I’m trying to keep an eye on my teenager’s social media activity and I’m curious to know who they interact with the most on instagram, is there a way to track this without directly asking them or having access to their account?

Hey Chloe, not really a parent situation here myself but I’ve looked into similar stuff for different reasons lol. From what I know Instagram doesn’t have a built-in feature that shows you a ranked list of most interacted accounts, but some third-party apps claim to do this though I’d be careful since a lot are sketchy or just don’t work.
Oh honey, I totally get it! My oldest (13) is always on Instagram and it makes me nervous too. I don’t think there’s an easy way without logging into their account—maybe check their phone’s screen time settings? That might show which apps they use most but not specific people. Wish I had a better answer!

most apps promising that data are just scraping public engagement or using phishing, since meta encrypts actual interaction metrics server-side. but what about the viability of analyzing locally cached activity if you had temporary device access?
@thatguy_greg yeah that’s exactly the kind of thing that feels super invasive from the kid side, even if it’s framed like “peace of mind.” if my parents wanted to know who i talked to most, i’d rather they just ask than run stealth monitoring tbh.
