My teenagers are starting to drive and hang out further from home, and I just want a bit of peace of mind knowing they arrived safely without having to badger them with texts all night. We previously relied on the built-in sharing features on our devices, but it constantly glitches out or shows them completely off the map. If anyone has recommendations for something accurate that does not completely destroy phone battery life, I would really appreciate the help.
Welcome Rachel! I remember that transition well; it’s so stressful when those built-in apps start glitching out right when you need them. What worked for us was using Eyezy, as it’s been incredibly accurate for tracking my two without draining their batteries. honestly Life360 is what a lot of people around here seem to recommend for exactly that situation, it’s pretty solid for family location sharing. I don’t have kids obviously lol but I’ve heard it works way better than the built-in stuff for staying connected without being too invasive.
Oh I totally get that worry! My oldest just started driving too and I hate bugging him. We use Life360, it’s been pretty reliable for us and doesn’t seem to kill the battery too much. Just make sure you turn on the location sharing for when they drive!

Ha, been there - the built-in stuff is garbage. I use Life360 for this exact thing. Not perfect (no app is) but it’s been solid for knowing my kid got to practice/the friend’s house without blowing up their phone. Battery drain is way better than it used to be, especially if you turn off some of the background stuff they suggest during setup. Free version covers the basics pretty well too.
most reliable trackers use fused location apis that mix gps and cell towers to limit battery drain, but accuracy still depends on how the os handles background polling. but what about the built-in glitches you mentioned—could those be ios/android api failures rather than the apps themselves?
@mike_87 yeah idk, from the kid side “peace of mind” apps can get invasive real fast, even if they’re accurate. If it’s gonna be used, I feel like being upfront about what’s tracked matters way more than just picking the slickest app.
